The SC hygiene module and needle guide
September, 29th, 2023
The hygiene module transforms the technique, the feeling and the creativity of PMU stylists into a beautiful result on the skin. By the way, the right hygiene module saves time during pigmentation and also many a post-treatment!
But which modules are best suited for your individual work?
Four attributes of needles are crucial for the desired style and the best result:
1. The number
2. The configuration
3. The diameter
4. The taper

1. The number of needles
...influences how much pigment is deposited into the skin at one time during treatment. With several needles, it is easier to create stronger lines and fill in or shade areas more quickly. A single needle, on the other hand, is particularly suitable for fine lines and details due to the lower release of pigment color.
Swiss Color hygiene modules contain 1 to 9 needles per module. The number is indicated by the digit at the beginning of the module name.
2. The configuration of needles
...determines the application possibilities and techniques for the PMU craft:
- ROUND LINER
These hygienic modules are used for hairlines of varying fineness as well as point techniques. In modules with several needles, these are soldered close together in a round arrangement for low pigment incorporation and particularly clean contours. The number of needles and their diameter determine the line thickness. - ROUND SHADER
This group of modules is especially suitable for strong lines, shading or filling areas. Their characteristic is round arrangement with slightly wider distances between the individual needles. The higher pigment output results in a somewhat rougher, pixelated look. - FLAT
FLAT modules give you sharp, dark lines in one sweep. With sensitive technique they allow complex shading and color filling. The needles of Flats are connected in a straight line. This shape adds more pigment to the skin with one movement. - MAGNUM
The two FLAT rows below each other are the preferred needle configuration for all types of shading, for filling in areas and for intensive coloring. These hygienic modules require fine handling so as not to injure the skin. However, since fewer swings are needed to apply a lot of pigment at once, they are even gentler on the skin with the right pigmentation technique. - SLOPE
In this configuration, needles of different lengths form an angled edge next to each other. This setup forms a hybrid of ROUND-LINER, in that only the longest needle is used for pigmentation, and a FLAT. Hygiene module for numerous different techniques. The Nano Slope modules are the digital transfer of microblading technique and allow both fine line work and complex shading. Compared to manual microblading, digital blading with SLOPE modules allows for more precise, even results. Microblading, on the other hand, can add special naturalness to the craft.
3. The diameter
...is one of the factors that determines how much pigment the individual needles carry and deliver. Wider needles are more rigidly fixed in the modules and deliver solid lines and pixelated shading. Thinner needles create fine lines and, because of their flexibility, soft, brush-like shading. Use rather thin needles for sensitive skin and thicker ones for oily or thicker skin.
The diameters of our needles range from 0.18 mm to 0.4 mm wide.
4. The length of the needle taper
...describes the length from the beginning to the end of the needle tip. The taper length determines the angle of the needle tip. The combination of diameter and taper determines the pixel size that is pierced into the skin.
Short tapers are hardly common anymore due to the large injuries they leave in the skin. Long tapers, as in the 1-micro module, penetrate the tissue very easily and introduce a lot of pigment. However, they also carry the risk of going deeper into the skin than desired for PMU use and require a fine technique.
The tapers of the needles in Swiss Color hygiene modules are precisely tailored to the needs of PMU stylists. They allow optimal pigment deposition without leaving too large pixels in the skin. While roughened tattoo needles can carry more pigment, the polished, sharply tapered grind of our PMU needles prevents skin irritation associated with roughening. All features are carefully chosen for the safety of PMU stylists and their clients.
